BURTON and Uttoxeter sub-branch news

We meet at Marston's Social Club, Shobnall Road, Burton

Last update 09Jul2018

2018 started well for the Sub Branch when 58 members filled the lounge at Marston's Club, Burton on the occasion of the AGM on Valentine's day. The committee was re-elected for 2018 en-bloc, consisting of
Chairman Ralph Seville, Vice Chairman Phil Johnson, Secretary Lesley Bennett and Treasurer Val Smith.
Terry Root continues as our Sub Branch Chaplain.
A good attendance is also expected at the Spring meeting at Marston's Club on the 11th April when NARPO member Ben Wilkes will be the speaker, his subject will be The Border Collie Trust GB and the title of his talk 'Collars to Collies'. The usual substantial buffet will be provided and new faces will be made very welcome.
The summer meeting at Marstons is on the 11th July and the autumn meeting on the 10th October, all meetings begin at 7:30 pm.
The 8th Sub Branch coach trip is on Thursday, 13th September when we travel to The Black Country Living Museum at Dudley. Seats are already being reserved for this popular day out. Suggestions for further coach trips and other ideas to further improve the Sub Branch would be appreciated.
Members are urged to continue to keep our committee informed of colleagues who are ill at home or in hospital so that welfare visits can be made.
The biggest function of the year for Burton and Uttoxeter members is the Christmas lunch, this year's lunch will take place on the 12th December at Branston Golf & Country Club so mark your calendars off now. The menu will be included in the winter edition of The Staffordshire Knot. The increased support by members at our meetings and other events is pleasing to see and long may that continue.
Best wishes to all of our members for 2018. Ralph Seville (Chairman) February, 2018.

We congratulate our Sub Branch Secretary, Lesley Bennett, on being awarded Life membership to NARPO in recognition of her services to members.

Early indications are that 2017 will be another busy year for the Sub Branch. A packed AGM held at Marstons Sports & Social Club at Burton on the 15th February included several new members among the 57 in attendance. Our next meeting takes place on Wednesday 12th April when we shall move to the larger room at Marstons Club in anticipation of increased numbers as national and international acclaimed Town Crier Ken Knowles from the City of Lichfield will be entertaining us (hearing aids not required). As usual, a buffet will be provided consequently we need to know those attending so that we can properly cater for everyone. A small raffle prize would be appreciated.

The 7th coach trip organised by the Sub Branch will be travelling to Shrewsbury on the 29th June one of our finest Tudor towns in the country. Members will be able to enjoy several hours looking around the quaint town followed by a river cruise on a 3-decked cruise boat. Finally, we will have a conducted tour of Shrewsbury travelling in our own coach, the narrator being Shrewsbury"s 7ft 2in Town Crier, the tallest in Europe. The price per person is just £15 that has been suitably subsidised by our Sub Branch. As with all our coach trips, the 55 seater coach will be filled quickly, but for seating availability please ring Ralph Seville.

Our priority during the year will continue to be the care and welfare of members in need especially those ill at home or in hospital, and in this respect we will continue to rely on information from our members that has been so important in the past.

Ralph Seville, Chairman. 24 February, 2017
