The National Police Memorial Day aims to:
• Remember Police Officers who have been killed or died on duty
• Demonstrate to relatives, friends and colleagues of fallen officers that their sacrifice is not forgotten
• Recognise annually the dedication to duty and courage displayed by Police Officers
29th September is designated Saint Michael’s Day; St Michael being the patron Saint of Police Officers, and Staffordshire NARPO will again be holding a service at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas. This year the service will be held at the recently commissioned UK Police Memorial and the short, informal service, will be conducted by the Rev Brian Williams of NARPO Lichfield Sub-Branch. This is always a very moving event, where we remember those officers who have lost their lives in the course of performing police duty. Following the service there is the opportunity to explore the numerous memorials and facilities at this ever expanding arboretum.
Staffordshire NARPO extends an open invitation to all NARPO members, retired & serving Police Officers and their partners to attend the service. Entry to the arboretum is free (donations are requested) and car parking is £4 for the day. We will meet in the cafeteria/restaurant in the main Remembrance Centre from 11:00am for the Service at 12 noon.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions it is necessary for all group gatherings to inform the Arboretum of the names of all attendees, therefore if you are going to attend please inform Stafford sub-branch Treasurer, Brian Whitehouse, either by phone or email (Tel: 01785 215099; email: firstname.lastname@example.org) asap. Your name will be included in our listing and cross referenced when you arrive. Payment for car parking will need to be made at the Reception desk.
The UK Police Memorial is a 10/15 mins walk from the reception centre and we are currently consulting with the Events Officer looking after our booking in respect of using the on-site buggies for those who need it. The service will be of approximately 30 minutes duration, and we will also look at providing chairs for those who require them. Therefore if you feel that you need either of these aids please let Brian know when advising him of your attendance.
[IPA members who have booked through Bryan Tunney do not need to notify Brian Whitehouse that they are attending.]
